Andrologist – Andrology

Andrology is the science of male fertility. The andrologist treats disorders of the reproductive capability (or infertility), impotence (erectile dysfunction or other sexual disorders), and hormone disorders in the aging male (PADAM = partial androgen deficit of the aging male, or male climacterium, male equivalent of menopause)

Diagnosis and treatment of male fertility disorders

• Investigation of sperm count (spermogram)*
• Fertility counselling, when a desired pregnancy has not been achieved; in close collaboration with experienced gynaecologists
• Membership of Munich working group for reproductive medicine at the Munich fertility centre (Kinderwunsch Zentrum München; see Links). Here human biologists, gynaecologists and andrologists have been collaborating closely for many years
• Microsurgical procedures for re-establishment of fertility or reproductive capacity
• Sperm extraction from the testes, with immediate processing by human biologists if no sperm can be identified in the ejaculate *
